Making Spirits Bright Collects Nearly 100,000 Pounds of Food – A New Record for Number of Nights Open to the Public

We are sincerely grateful to Making Spirits Bright Making Spirits Bright for collecting and donating 98,799 pounds of food from our community – in just 32 nights – for their 2019 event. Making Spirits Bright – Sheboygan County Rotary Clubs’ drive-through holiday lights show in Evergreen Park – goes beyond providing a family-friendly event by also collecting non-perishable food items for Sheboygan County Food Bank, resulting in our largest annual food drive.

In the eight-year partnership with Sheboygan County Food Bank, Making Spirits Bright has collected a grand total of 580,058 pounds of food for us to distribute to our 16 partner food pantries as well as our free meal site and shelter partners throughout Sheboygan County. In addition to the annual food drive, Making Spirits Bright has made generous monetary contributions in the past that have allowed us to expand our operations. In 2019, Making Spirits Bright fully-funded the purchase of our first refrigerated truck, which has allowed us to safely accept and transport fresh, healthy foods.

We also express our gratitude to each of our generous community members who donated food, or volunteered, at Making Spirits Bright, as well as those who hosted food drives to contribute to the impressive collection total.

The fight to end hunger requires year-round support, as local children, families and seniors face hunger every day. We greatly appreciate our community’s support around the holiday season and the rest of the calendar year. Because of the support, we can continue to ensure that 3,000 families in need receive free, healthy food each month. We look forward to continuing to work together with our community in 2020 to increase the food security of Sheboygan County residents.
