Howards High School is unleashing the power of fresh food production to help Sheboygan County become a happier, healthier community. Students of Mrs. Malone’s Advanced Horticulture class recently purchased three of Fork Farms fully self-contained vertical hydroponic systems called Flex Farms. Flex Farms are portable and only require a standard electrical outlet and less than 10 square feet of space to produce harvest after harvest of nutritious vegetables, herbs, and more.
With a two-year plan in place, starting this summer students will be in charge of maintaining the vertical agriculture technology units and, at the same time, be able to make a positive difference in our community. Students will clean the units, harvest lettuce, bag the lettuce, and then deliver their haul to Sheboygan County Food Bank. These units will produce 150 fresh heads of lettuce each week for our neighbors in need!
