First Snowfall Doesn’t Stop Volunteers from Picking Nearly Two Tons of Apples

The first snowfall of the season in Sheboygan County happened over night on October 29th and it didn’t stop our dedicated volunteers from heading out to Smiling Dog Orchard on a “crisp” morning for a second time this fall. Volunteers collected 1,866 pounds of honey crisp apples, which will be safely stored at our warehouse and then distributed to our partner agencies to give to our neighbors in need.
Special thanks to our volunteers and friends at Smiling Dog Orchard for inviting us back to fight hunger in our community!
Did you know that gathering fresh produce like this is so important to us that we created a healthy food policy? We believe that every person has the right to access healthy foods. A healthy, sustainable food supply decreases chronic diseases, increases productivity in the classroom and workplace, and increases health equity.
