Sheboygan County Food Bank

When the holidays roll around each year, for many of us, it’s all about a few core things: making memories with family and friends, giving back, and creating and carrying on traditions. The Holiday Lights Hunger Run/Walk, Sheboygan County Food Bank’s primary, annual fundraiser event through Making Spirits Bright‘s iconic holiday lights show in Evergreen Park, checks all of these boxes and registration just launched this week. We welcome you to save your spot for the 5K run or 1-mile walk at the lowest registration prices.

If you think you can round up 10+ members to register for the 5K run and/or 1-mile walk, each team member will enjoy a $5 discount. The deadline to create, join or edit a Group/Team ends on Thursday, November 9. It’s also important to us that we keep this a family-friendly event. So as always, all children age 12 and under register for free.

When you go through the registration process, you will have the chance to add cotton shirts, Sport-Tek® shirts, hoodies, knit caps, headbands, and travel mugs to your cart through Wednesday, November 1. All sales directly fuel Sheboygan County Food Bank’s mission. We also love to see your holiday-themed gear and costumes. A bumble, a Christmas tree, a gingerbread man, twin Santas, and an elf – we’ve seen a lot of amazing fits over the last five years so please keep them coming!

For competitive runners, awards in age categories and top overall male and female awards will be up for grabs and presented to winners at the award ceremony and after party at 3 Sheeps Brewing Company‘s taproom. The local hang out and hot-spot boasts a dog-friendly 10,000 sq. ft taproom equipped with a variety of taps featuring taproom-only beers and year-round favorites. 3 Sheeps will generously donate $1 to Sheboygan County Food Bank for every pint of beer sold that evening. Check out the full schedule for the day.

If volunteering is more your thing, we’re grateful for and rely on many volunteers for the day to run smoothly. Volunteers help with packet pickup, registration, gear check, shuttle bus stops, water stations, the course, and clean up. To sweeten the deal, each volunteer will receive a Sartori BellaVitano wedge, Sargento Balanced Break, and one free 3 Sheeps Brewing Company beverage (redeemable on the evening of the event only) as a token of our appreciation. (Shout out to Sargento, Sartori and 3 Sheeps!)

This event continues to be critical to make sure nutritious food reaches Sheboygan County families in need. In 2023, inflation and other challenges are making it difficult for low-and-middle-income families to put food on the table. An average of about 4,100 families were helped through Sheboygan County Food Bank’s network every month so far this year, which is up 28% from 2022. In the first five years of the Holiday Lights Hunger Run/Walk, $230,000 has been raised, and at last year’s event, over 2,300 people (the most ever) committed to taking steps against hunger. We have no doubt that 2023 is going to be another year that we come up big, together, to support our neighbors who are counting on us.
